How To Operate Your Chlorinator

OPERATING YOUR CHLORINATOR FOR INGROUND POOLS 

  1. Always be Cautious, when handling chlorine products.
  2. Begin by turning off the electricity to your pump/motor.
  3. While removing the top cover of the chlorinator, Do not stand above the unit, and be careful not to inhale chlorine gas. Open the top lid of the chlorinator by turning it counter clockwise. (Hayward chlorinators depress the locking tab).
  4. Fill with slow dissolving jumbo tabs (3” pucks) or sticks. If possible use plastic disposable gloves.
  5. Replace the lid to the chlorinator.
  6. Prime the pump and restore the power if needed.
  7. Remember, you should always maintain a free and available chlorine level of between 1 and 3 PPM (parts-per-million).

Note: Chlorine product information varies. Always read the product’s instructions. FOR ABOVEGROUND POOLS WITH NEW WATER SYSTEM

  1. Always be Cautious, when handling chlorine products.
  2. Begin by turning off the electricity to your pump/motor.
  3. Removing the eyeball return fitting to prevent water spillage. You may need to use a plastic key to remove all of it. (These are available from our Parts Department.)  Now, install the threaded plug (inside the pool).  Make sure that it has a rubber o-ring and that it is not split or cracked. Snap the aqua-door over the lip on the skimmer face plate.For easy operation, place a shut-off valve in front of the motor and on the back side of the return fitting. By placing them both on the “OFF” position you have shut off the water flow. (An available option at our store.)
  4. Remove the top of the chlorinator by turning counter clockwise, a tool may be needed to open the chlorinator. (NEVER use this tool to close the chlorinator). (Be cautious for chlorine gas). Now, remove the cartridge.
  5. Cut the new chlorine cartridge at the tapered end with a sharp razor or a sharp pair of hose cutters. (Hose cutters are recommended and available in our Parts Department.) Be sure that it is a clean cut with a smooth end. Place the cartridge in the chlorinator making sure it is in properly and replace the lid to the unit.
  6. Return the flow to your pump/motor and replacing the return fitting (eyeball) or turn the shut off valves back to the “ON” position.
  7. Turn the pump back on.
